THE INTERVIEW

It's an honor to speak with you today. Why don't you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?

A few things about myself, I grew up in Cayey, Puerto Rico. I joined the Marine Corps and served in a few different duty stations. I would say the most rewarding memories while in the Marines are the following: the Marine Corps Boxing Team, and my time as a Drill Instructor.

As a Drill Instructor you give a small amount of yourself to each recruit. Perhaps it might not be vocalized but sometimes the closest thing to a father/mother is a Drill Instructor.  We Instill a sense of pride and craftsman through our very own example.

The second would be the Boxing Team in my  opinion this is one of the best ways to challenge yourself. Unlike many other sports this sport is just you and that other person fighting you can’t point the finger to anyone else when it comes to failure you need to take a hard look at yourself and see what corrections or adjustments need to be made which helps in to our personal lives as well.

I'm sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?

Like you and many others I have had many challenges. One of the few I have had was over coming adversity and despite ones attempt to disrupt the momentum. When your mind is focused on the goal and task at hand it is very hard to be stopped unless you don’t develop your body, spirit and mind, you will always come short.

Let's talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?

My specialty is to create hate and discontent as a Drill Instructor creating an environment of chaos. This helps many “Individuals” learn to rely on one another because as humans it’s a normal reaction to be selfish. This helps create life long bonds and cohesion.

What's your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?

Life and work is a lot like a light switch. For a very long time I didn’t know how to flip the switch and would bring life into work or work into my life. It’s ok to get discouraged at times when we aren’t obtaining our goals or dreams but I would say small victories is what gets anyone through it. What is a small victory you may ask? Well a small victory is an achievement that is used as a stepping stone to get you to your goal. For instance, preparing for a boxing fight. First you got your fitness, then you got your training as well as weight and diet. Yeah the goal is the fight but the small achievements of the items previously listed are the achievement.

What's next for you?

After almost 10 years in the Marine Corps, I am going to transition into the Civilian world. I feel that I have achieved all the goals I put up for myself. It’s time to challenge myself in other ways. That being said, my plan is to go to Tampa Florida and obtain my degree in Radiology Technologist. I have never been to Tampa however I’ve challenged to bloom whenever I am planted.

Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?

I think success is measured in many ways depending on the person. Some consider a tangible item as a form of success. I consider the way you live a success. What are you doing day to day to help not just yourself but all of those that you consider family/friends or loved ones. Can people turn to you in a moment of stress or depression can they speak to you or come to you for advice? That to me is success being a better individual and leaving a long lasting positive impression in others.
